SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS (ANP) - George Russell is meteen uitgevallen in de Grote Prijs van België in de Formule 1. De Britse Mercedes-coureur viel uit in de eerste ronde van de race op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps nadat hij de auto van zijn landgenoot Lewis Hamilton had geraakt.
In het wereldkampioenschap stond Russell voorafgaand aan de race op de tweede plaats achter teamgenoot Kimi Antonelli. Russell heeft 154 punten en Antonelli leidt met 179 punten.
Na het uitvallen van Russell kwam de safetycar op de baan.
BRUSSEL (ANP/BELGA) - De Belgische minister van Defensie Theo Francken gaat naar eigen zeggen op zoek naar andere leveranciers voor fregatten dan de Nederlandse scheepsbouwer Damen. Daar zijn twee fregatten besteld, maar die worden bij nader inzien tweemaal zo duur als voorzien en zijn jaren later dan verwacht af. Het eerste fregat zou op zijn vroegst in 2033 worden geleverd.
De Belgische regering heeft besloten twee nieuwe fregatten en zes nieuwe mijnenjagers aan te schaffen voor het Belgisch-Nederlandse marinepartnerschap. Het gaat hierbij om ASW-fregatten (Anti Submarine Warfare). Francken zei tegen Belgische media dat hij maandag andere leveranciers benadert. Het gaat om bedrijven in Spanje, Frankrijk, Duitsland, Italië en Turkije. Francken loofde de Turkse defensie-industrie. In oktober verwacht hij een besluit te nemen.
Hij meent dat "als het kan, we verder gaan met de Nederlanders". Maar als dat tegen de huidige voorwaarden is, is dat volgens Francken een groot probleem.
AMMAN (ANP/AFP) - Vanuit Iran zijn raketten afgevuurd richting de Jordaanse havenstad Aqaba, zegt het Israëlische leger. De Israëlische en Jordaanse strijdkrachten zouden een raket hebben onderschept.
Op verschillende plaatsen in Jordanië is het luchtalarm geactiveerd, meldt staatszender Al-Mamlaka.
Het Israëlische leger waarschuwt dat door de beschieting raketten op Israëlisch grondgebied terecht kunnen komen.
Luchthaven ontruimd
Eerder op zondag zei de Amerikaanse ambassade in Jordanië dat de Jordaanse autoriteiten de luchthaven en haven van Aqaba hadden ontruimd wegens een mogelijke dreiging, maar een Jordaanse regeringswoordvoerder ontkende dat.
Op vrijdag werden twee Amerikaanse militairen in Jordanië gedood door Iraanse aanvallen. Een derde raakte vermist.

One day, when Maga is out of power and the conditions of political possibility have changed, there are going to be people who tell you that the best thing for the country is to move on. There are going to be people who tell you that attempts to hold the purveyors of Trumpism accountable are petty, vindictive, engaging in a kind of petulant recrimination and score-settling. There are going to be people who tell you that there must not be investigations, that it would be a waste of time to have trials. There are going to be people who tell you that it is not wise to change the law to allow for prosecutions and lawsuits; that too great an emphasis on the past will only divide the country, and keep us from looking toward the future. This argument was made after Watergate; it was made after the civil war. It was wrong back then, and it will be wrong again when it is delivered, with piety and smugness, after Trump.
When Maga leaves power, all of the officers, bureaucrats and leaders of ICE – from the uniformed thugs in masks on the streets, to the contractors guarding concentration camps, to the suited vultures directing the operation in Washington and drafting legal memos to justify it – all of them must be held accountable. Their immunity from criminal prosecution and civil suits must be eradicated, and their liability must be made retroactive. They must be investigated, tried, fined, punished and ostracized. Needless to say, ICE must be abolished – attempts to merely reform it must be resisted as betrayals of democratic values. But it is not enough to abolish ICE. Those who are responsible for ICE must be driven from public life.

This was my first professional headshot. When I was 12 I would spend a lot of time driving from San Diego to Los Angeles for auditions with my mum and my brother, who also wanted to act. That guy in the plaid shirt never booked a single job. My brother did, though. He was a far cuter, more photogenic kid than I was.
