UTRECHT (ANP) - De woningen die nieuw worden gebouwd in Nederland sluiten niet aan bij de wensen van kopers. Dat stelt de Nederlandse Vereniging van Makelaars (NVM). Volgens de makelaarsvereniging worden er vooral appartementen gebouwd, terwijl er meer vraag is naar grondgebonden woningen.

Het woningaanbod op de nieuwbouwmarkt is afgelopen kwartaal gestegen tot ruim 20.100, het hoogste niveau sinds 2015. "We zien dat er heel veel nieuwe woningen bij zijn gekomen. Dat is ontzettend positief, omdat die aantallen ook echt nodig zijn", stelt voorzitter van NVM Wonen Lana Goutsmits-Gerssen. "Maar er zijn er minder verkocht."

Het aantal verkochte nieuwbouwwoningen lag afgelopen kwartaal 7 procent lager dan een jaar eerder en kwam uit op 6100. Volgens Goutsmits-Gerssen komt dat omdat er "heel veel appartementen" worden aangeboden.

Kopers die op zoek zijn naar een appartement hebben ook veel keuze uit bestaande woningen, merkt NVM. Dat komt mede door het zogeheten uitponden, het verkopen van voormalige huurwoningen door beleggers.

Waar zit je het beste in het vliegtuig: voorin, boven de vleugel of toch achterin? Het lijkt een detail bij het boeken van je ticket, maar voor wie bang is, met een baby reist of gewoon rustig wil zitten, kan de stoelkeuze het verschil maken. In De Telegraaf vertellen KLM‑stewardessen over fabels en feiten rond turbulentie, kou en veiligheid aan boord.

Aan de voorkant van de cabine zijn stoelen vaak als eerste uitverkocht. Niet alleen vanwege de extra beenruimte, maar ook omdat je na landing als eerste van boord bent en meestal eerder eten en drinken krijgt. Voorin hoor je bovendien de motoren minder en voelt de vlucht rustiger, omdat je verder van het beweeglijke staartstuk zit. Wie vooral zo min mogelijk turbulentie wil ervaren, lijkt hier dus aan het goede adres.

Over “koude plekken” in het vliegtuig doen veel verhalen de ronde. De stoelen bij de nooduitgang zouden het kilst zijn, maar volgens een KLM‑stewardess is dat een fabel. Raamplaatsen zijn eerder frisser, doordat daar lucht uit de airco naar beneden waait. Het cabineklimaat wordt centraal geregeld; een paar graden verschil kan al als vrieskist aanvoelen, maar heeft niets met een specifieke rij te maken.

Reizigers met baby’s kunnen bij intercontinentale vluchten een bassinet, een klein wiegje, reserveren op speciaal aangewezen stoelen met extra beenruimte voorin. Die plekken zijn zeer gewild, zowel bij jonge ouders als bij lange passagiers, en dus snel weg. Wie juist niet naast baby’s wil zitten, doet er goed aan deze rijen te vermijden. Een extra ticket voor de baby mag alleen worden gebruikt op een raamplaats, omdat een kinderzitje niet aan het gangpad is toegestaan.

Interessant is het spanningsveld tussen comfort en veiligheid. Crashdata die door media als TIME zijn samengevat op basis van onderzoeken van onder meer de Amerikaanse National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), laten zien dat passagiers achterin – vooral op middenstoelen – iets hogere overlevingskansen hebben dan voorin. Tegelijk wijzen piloten en cabin crew erop dat turbulentie juist achterin sterker wordt ervaren en dat een plek rond de vleugel en voorin rustiger is.

ZEIST (ANP) - Het aantal Nederlandse huishoudens met een tv-abonnement is gedaald. Dat blijkt uit cijfers van marktonderzoeker Telecompaper. Er hebben 6,38 miljoen huishoudens nu een tv-abonnement, 115.000 minder dan een jaar eerder.

De omzet uit consumenten-tv-diensten daalde 1,1 procent tot 431 miljoen euro. Daaruit blijkt dat de prijsstijgingen die worden doorgevoerd het aantal verloren klanten niet op kunnen vangen.

VodafoneZiggo blijft marktleider in het Nederlandse televisielandschap. Het bedrijf zag zijn klantenaandeel wel krimpen, maar heeft nog altijd 44 procent van het totale klantenaantal. VodafoneZiggo genereert 49 procent van de omzet in de markt. KPN is de nummer twee met 34 procent van het totale klantenaantal en is goed voor 32,5 procent van de omzet. Odido is de nummer drie met 8 procent klantenaantal.

Het marktaandeel van glasvezel in de consumenten-tv-markt groeide van 34,4 naar 39 procent. Tv via de kabel is met een krimpend aandeel van 45,6 procent nog steeds het gebruikelijkst.

My wedding did not come close to the upwards of $50m floated by People Magazine as the cost of Swift’s. We got the venue for free because my wife’s family owned it, which is its own sort of privilege. Lena Dunham didn’t attend, but I certainly sent enough invites. Still, getting someone to agree to tolerate you “till death do you part” is no small feat. Did we get divorced three years later? Of course. I can’t believe she dealt with me even that long. Will Taylor and Travis Kelce beat our record? Depends on how often he forgets to put the toilet seat down in one of their numerous homes across the country. That guy just seems like the sort to make that mistake regularly. Don’t ask me how I came to this conclusion. I trust my own eyes.

This stage includes the Aspin and Tourmalet before the second-category drag up to Gavarnie and that is it for the Pyrenees. One or two riders will stake an early claim in the King of the Mountains prize; the stage winner should come from the break, a climber who is no threat overall such as Lenny Martinez.

Some of Canonical’s ambitions for the future directions of Ubuntu are becoming apparent – despite some bumps in the road. Canonical engineering manager Ravi Kant Sharma posted an Ubuntu on Arm summer ’26 update on the Ubuntu Discourse. The company is boosting its efforts to make running Ubuntu on Arm64 a first-class experience. Some of the changes are behind the scenes, and others will be more immediately visible. Last month, Canonical announced that Ubuntu’s support for patching the live, running kernel now included Arm64 systems, on both mainstream Ubuntu 26.04 and the IoT-focused immutable Ubuntu Core 26. This indicates one of Canonical’s focuses: kernel live-patching is a server feature. For desktop or laptop machines, there’s no compelling need for something as tricky as this: you can just save your work and reboot. As The Register recently reported, Arm server sales are now nearly half the market – and server support is where Canonical makes most of its money. At least some of it is about end-user systems, though: earlier in June, Canonical announced a native Arm64 snap package of Valve’s Steam client. This includes x86-32 and x86-64 binaries, using the FEX emulation layer. This is the Linux world’s equivalent of Apple’s Rosetta 2 layer in macOS. Development of FEX has been funded by Valve for years, as it will be an important element of the forthcoming Steam Frame VR headset that the company announced last year. Ubuntu’s support for Arm laptops is extending beyond Qualcomm SOCs: there’s a Resolute Raccoon “concept image” for CIX P1-based hardware, meaning devices built around the new CIX Technologies P1, which got Linux kernel support a year ago. This is used in some Radxa and Orange Pi SBCs, and there’s even a Framework laptop motherboard using it. As The Reg reported in March, official Google Chrome for Arm64 Linux is coming, and that also means support for Widevine DRM. Other apps can use the Chrome libraries, so this will improve support for DRM-protected streaming media in Firefox and Spotify, for instance. These days more snap packages support Arm64, as well. It’s now some three years since the Reg FOSS desk looked at an Arm-based laptop, the Lenovo Thinkpad X13s Gen1. Even in 2023, Ubuntu was siginficantly ahead of any other Linux distro in how well it supported the hardware, but things continue to get better. Arm64 packages are being moved to the main Ubuntu download servers on archive.ubuntu.com. Until now, they were hosted on the specialist ports.ubuntu.com servers, along with other non-x86 versions such as PowerPC, RISC-V, and IBM mainframes. This means that the Arm64 packages will be automatically carried by Ubuntu’s mirror servers around the world. This is not a trivial change: it required changes to the scripts and build pipeline that put together Ubuntu installation images. This exposed some bugs, for instance this one in cloudinit. Back in April when the company released the current Ubuntu LTS version, we reported that Jon Seager, VP of Engineering, promised to “make interim releases crazy again,” and that one of the plans was to adopt the new Rust Network Time Protocol daemon. The company is putting its money where its mouth is: at the end of last month, it stepped up to become a Gold Sponsor of the Trifecta Tech Foundation. Trifecta Tech is the non-profit organization developing ntpd-rs, as well as the new sudo-rs tool, a bug which last year caused a security issue in Ubuntu 25.10. It’s based at the same address as Netherlands Rust consultancy Tweede Golf. (Its name, which we will not attempt to render phonetically in English, means “second wave” in Dutch, and we were slightly disappointed to learn that it’s nothing to do with either the fabric tweed or the game of golf.) (While clearing up potential misunderstandings, as Trifecta Tech developed both sudo-rs and ntpd-rs, it did not create the new Rust coreutils used in recent versions of Ubuntu. The new NTP daemon is also independent from the NTPsec Project, which describes itself as “a secure, hardened, and improved implementation of Network Time Protocol derived from NTP Classic, Dave Mills’s original.” As he blogged a decade ago, the main contributor to the NTPSec effort is controversial open source celebrity Eric Raymond.) It is interesting to note that Canonical is pressing ahead with moving more core components to Rust even as it encounters issues with its current adoption of the Rust coreutils. A new bug describes an issue with the Rust version of the cp command: a problem with how it interprets the -L switch. According to the manual page for cp, this means: -L, --dereference always follow symbolic links in SOURCE For now, the team has reverted to using the classic C-based GNU cp command, but the bug shows how subtle behavior of the new replacements for these core Unix commands is risky. ®
