Dolly Parton will celebrate turning 81 with the opening of a musical about her life on Broadway later this year.
Dolly: A True Original Musical is billed as “a remarkable journey through the life of this trailblazing woman” and is set to begin previews at New York’s St James Theatre on 7 December before opening on 19 January, the singer’s birthday.

Continue reading...LONDEN (ANP) - Tennisser Jannik Sinner heeft zich verzekerd van een plek in de halve finales van Wimbledon. De Italiaanse nummer 1 van de wereld was in drie sets te sterk voor de Duitser Jan-Lennard Struff: 7-5 7-6 (4) 6-3.
Sinner maakt op het Londense grastoernooi jacht op zijn vijfde grandslamtitel en titelprolongatie. Eerder was hij al de beste op de Australian Open (2024, 2025) en de US Open (2024). Voor Struff (36) was het de eerste kwartfinale op een grandslamtoernooi.
In de eerste set had de 24-jarige Italiaan genoeg aan een late break. De Duitse nummer 74 van de wereldranglijst kwam in de tweede set een break voor, maar leverde zijn volgende opslagbeurt direct in. Ondanks sterk spel van de Duitser haalde Sinner de tweede set binnen via een tiebreak. In de derde set bleek een enkele break voor de Italiaan voldoende voor de winst.
In de halve finale wacht een ontmoeting met de Canadees Félix Auger-Aliassime of Novak Djokovic uit Servië.
LAUSANNE (ANP) - De Noordse combinatie verdwijnt na meer dan honderd jaar als onderdeel van de Olympische Winterspelen. Het Internationaal Olympisch Comité heeft besloten de aloude combinatie van skispringen en langlaufen te schrappen uit het programma. Dat zal op de eerstkomende Winterspelen van 2030 in de Franse Alpen al het geval zijn.
De Noordse combinatie was al een olympische discipline op de eerste editie van de Winterspelen in 1924 (Chamonix), maar de populariteit van de sport is de afgelopen jaren sterk afgenomen. Er was op de laatste edities nauwelijks aandacht van het publiek. Bovendien wordt de sport in te weinig landen beoefend. Slechts vijf verschillende landen wonnen medailles tijdens de laatste vier Winterspelen.
