The funeral of the former Iranian supreme leader has begun as the gates of the sprawling Grand Mosalla mosque in central Tehran let in thousands of mourners who had been waiting through the night to enter the grounds.

Iran is staging mass funeral processions for Ali Khamenei – whose ⁠37-year reign was brought ⁠to an ​end in February by the first airstrike of the war launched by the US and Israel.

KYIV (ANP/RTR) - Oekraïne ontkent dat Rusland de belangrijke oostelijke stad Kostjantynivka heeft ingenomen. "Dit zijn wederom valse beweringen", meldt de generale staf.

De Russische krijgsmacht zei vrijdag de stad veroverd te hebben. President Vladimir Poetin vierde dit tijdens een bezoek aan een commandopost van het leger.

Kostjantynivka maakt deel uit van een verdedigingslinie die cruciaal is voor Oekraïne om de regio Donetsk in handen te houden. Volgens analisten zou Rusland via de stad verder richting het noorden kunnen optrekken. Rusland probeert het al langer in te nemen.

Volgens Oekraïne blijft de krijgsmacht "defensieve operaties uitvoeren op aangewezen linies binnen de stad en op toegangswegen ernaartoe".

Russia's military told Putin that its forces had taken control of the city, a strategic target that Moscow has long sought in its advance through the Donetsk region.

Governor Alexander Drozdenko said drones had struck the port of Vysotsk, which handles oil, grain, coal and liquefied natural gas.
