Both OpenAI and Anthropic have previously suggested in policy papers that a public or sovereign wealth fund may be required in the future to distribute shares to the public. Wait for a French man to win a grand slam set to go on as rising star loses to former Wimbledon finalist in four sets
It has been 43 years and four weeks since a French man won a grand slam. The odds that it’s about to be 43 years and five just got a whole lot shorter. Their last contender, Arthur Rinderknech, plays Novak Djokovic in the third round on Friday, but their great hope heading into the championships, Arthur Fils, lost to Matteo Berrettini on Centre Court, 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, in a performance that included a couple of flare-ups with the umpire and his own coaches, a lot of hot exclamations, exultations and exhalations – and an array of absolutely staggering shots.
They hadn’t seen Fils, who is 22, on Centre Court before. But then they haven’t seen much of him anywhere in the past 12 months, which he has mostly spent recovering from the stress fracture in his back he sustained at last year’s French Open. The eight-month break interrupted his rise up the rankings and put a hold on all the talk on the circuit about how he was one of the few young players around with the game to take on the duopoly of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

Last-ditch attempts are being made to try to boost the attendance at Ellis Park this weekend, with sharply discounted tickets now on sale for South Africa’s meeting with England. They may succeed in putting a few more bums on seats, but not half as many as would have been the case had Steve Borthwick named Henry Pollock, the eye-catching Northampton flanker, in his starting XV for the opening round of the Nations Championship.
There are certainly plenty locally who cannot wait to see Pollock’s first collision with the likes of Eben Etzebeth, Jasper Wiese or Pieter-Steph du Toit, with those eagerly licking their lips including several hard-nosed former Springboks and a random passerby at England’s team hotel this week. “We had one person come up to him in the hotel and say the South Africans are coming for you,” reported Pollock’s teammate George Furbank. “It was actually a guy who was Congolese. We had just finished watching the football and he came up and said: ‘You’re public enemy No 1 here, mate.’”

The Makerfield MP told LBC that if he became prime minister later this month, as expected, he would look at reducing business rates for some high street businesses, bringing down water and energy costs by de-privatising companies and making bus travel free for 16- to 18-year-olds.

This is Rafael Jodar’s first Wimbledon and yet the way the 19-year-old plays and talks, you would think he is playing his 10th. Trailing two sets to one to another Spaniard, Pablo Carreño Busta, in a match held over from the previous evening when the light ran out, he could easily have been nervous when the encounter resumed, thinking his first time here could be about to end.
Not a bit of it. Jodar quickly levelled and then edged the fifth to win 3-6, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 and move into the third round. “I knew I had to get my body ready for the next day, because obviously I was down,” said Jodar, who has burst on to the scene this year and who reached the quarter-finals at Roland Garros last month. “But I believed in my chances. Continue reading...APELDOORN (ANP) - Het Centraal Orgaan opvang asielzoekers (COA) sluit in Apeldoorn een spoednoodopvang voor asielzoekers voorlopig vanwege de vondst van asbest. Dat meldt de gemeente Apeldoorn.
In het gebouw aan de Waleweingaarde, waar op 1 juni de opvang is gestart, is materiaal aangetroffen dat asbest bevat. Uit voorzorg worden vrijdag alle zestig bewoners verplaatst naar een andere, nog onbekende COA-locatie.
Tegen de komst van de spoednoodopvang is veel protest geweest. Daarbij werden onder meer vuurwerk en rookbommen afgestoken en de mobiele eenheid ingezet. Verschillende demonstranten werden aangehouden.
Het COA laat onderzoek uitvoeren om vast te stellen waar het asbest zich precies bevindt en wat de gevolgen zijn voor de verdere bouwwerkzaamheden en de veiligheid. "In afwachting van de uitslag van het volledige onderzoek, zal de spoednoodopvang gesloten blijven. Naar verwachting is het onderzoek volgende week afgerond", aldus de gemeente.
