Culture secretary, Lisa Nandy, launches consultation on first changes to system in more than two decades
The government is to review the future of the national lottery for the first time in more than 20 years as the culture secretary, Lisa Nandy, promised to give the public a greater say in how billions of pounds raised by ticket sales is spent.
“The national lottery is played by millions of people every single week. It is not just public money, it is literally the public’s money and they must be in the driving seat of how it is spent,” said Nandy.

The Donmar has had mixed results adapting leftfield films such as Force Majeure and The Fear of 13. But this production, based on the 2018 Danish movie Den Skyldige (by Gustav Möller and Emil Nygaard Albertsen), is a fantastically theatrical experience, part crime thriller and part ghost story.
At 70 minutes, it is shorter than the film but arguably more devastating, with the kind of razor suspense that fills you with dread and leaves you palpitating. As a critic who takes copious notes, I emerged at the end of the show with a near empty notebook as I was too absorbed to look away.

The EU’s car industry has called for the UK to be fully included in new “Made in Europe” rules that threaten to shut out British manufacturers from their biggest export market.
The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (Acea) on Wednesday urged Brussels to give the UK, Turkey and Morocco “justified, targeted exemptions” to the rules, which will require cars and parts to be made within the EU to qualify for subsidies or public procurement.
Continue reading...LONDEN (ANP) - De olieproducerende landen van OPEC+ zullen tijdens hun vergadering op zondag naar verwachting instemmen met een verdere verhoging van hun productiequota vanaf augustus. Dat zeggen bronnen tegenover persbureau Reuters. Hierdoor komt er extra olie op de markt op een moment dat de olieprijzen dalen, mede doordat de Straat van Hormuz geleidelijk weer volledig wordt opengesteld.
Volgens de bronnen zal het productiequotum voor augustus met ongeveer 188.000 vaten per dag worden verhoogd, evenveel als de verhogingen die eerder voor juni en juli werden afgesproken. Het oliekartel reageerde niet direct op een verzoek om bevestiging.
In de afgelopen maanden ging de productie ook al meerdere keren omhoog. Dit waren symbolische verhogingen, aangezien de belangrijke Straat van Hormuz toen zo goed als afgesloten was. Die sluiting heeft de olieleveringen ernstig verstoord.
BONN (ANP) - Fietsfabrikant Accell, bekend van merken als Batavus, Lapierre en Raleigh, is te koop gezet door zijn nieuwe aandeelhouders. Een mogelijke koper is Dutech Holdings, een bedrijf uit Singapore dat ook andere Europese fietsmerken bezit.
Uit een register van de Duitse markttoezichthouder blijkt dat Dutech een melding heeft gedaan om goedkeuring te krijgen voor de "indirecte verwerving van aandelen en zeggenschap over alle activiteiten van de Accell-groep".
Een woordvoerster van Accell zegt dat deze melding bij het Bundeskartellamt een voorlopige stap is. Het bedrijf uit Heerenveen heeft nog geen definitieve overeenkomst gesloten met welke partij dan ook, voegt ze eraan toe.
Accell sloot eerder dit jaar een deal waarbij eigenaar KKR de controle over de fietsfabrikant overdroeg aan schuldeisers, in ruil voor het verlagen van de schulden. Het bedrijf had het al langer financieel moeilijk door de nasleep van de coronapandemie. Fietsen waren tijdens de pandemie erg in trek, maar vervolgens zakte de vraag weer in en drukten onverkochte voorraden op de resultaten.
