An anonymous reader quotes a report from 404 Media: On June 26, the County Manager of Henrico County, Virginia, John Vithoulkas, sent an email to thousands of county employees asking them to help the local government conserve electricity. "Beginning July 1st, the rate we pay for electricity used in all Henrico County government and school facilities will increase dramatically -- by 25%, increasing costs by an estimated $5 million next fiscal year. We anticipate more rate increases for electricity in the years ahead," a copy of the email obtained by 404 Media said (emphasis his).

Henrico County is a community of more than 350,000 people in eastern Virginia just outside of Richmond. It also hosts 37 data centers and there are plans to build 17 more, including plans to convert hundreds of acres of Civil War battlefields into data centers. Thanks to its proximity to DC and vast amounts of land, Henrico County became a data center hub seemingly overnight and its services clients big and small. Meta built a data center there in 2017.

"To mitigate the impact of higher electric costs, I am asking that we, collectively, make slight adjustments to conserve electricity across our individual workspaces," Vithoulkas wrote in the email. "Turn off your lights when leaving your workspace, including when you leave for the day. Turn off your computers/laptops at the end of each workday. If your workspace has windows, adjust the blinds to manage heat from sunlight. Unplug any appliances, chargers, or other electrical items when they are not in use. Please limit use of (or refrain altogether from using) space heaters. A typical space heater alone can cost the county from $150 to $300 per year in electricity costs." "Each dollar we can save by conserving electricity is another dollar the county can reinvest into staff and the services we provide our residents," Vithoulkas email said.

De rosé op het terras? Die krijgt deze zomer serieuze concurrentie. In 2026 draait alles om lichte cocktails, verrassende smaakcombinaties en drankjes die er minstens zo goed uitzien als ze smaken. Minder suiker, meer frisheid en vooral: makkelijk drinkbaar tijdens lange, warme zomeravonden.

Dit zijn de vijf zomerdrankjes die je deze zomer overal gaat tegenkomen.

1. Hugo Spritz

Jarenlang was de Aperol Spritz onaantastbaar, maar 2026 lijkt het jaar van de Hugo Spritz te worden. De cocktail combineert prosecco, vlierbloesemlikeur of -siroop, bruiswater, verse munt en limoen. Het resultaat is bloemig, fris en nét iets minder bitter dan zijn oranje voorganger.

De populariteit schiet wereldwijd omhoog en steeds meer bars zetten de Hugo bovenaan de cocktailkaart. Zoekopdrachten naar het drankje zijn de afgelopen weken explosief gestegen.

2. Paloma Spritz

Tequila blijft een van de populairste sterke dranken van dit moment, maar in plaats van zware margarita's kiezen liefhebbers nu voor de Paloma Spritz. Grapefruit, bruiswater en tequila zorgen samen voor een lichte cocktail met een frisse citruskick.

Perfect voor wie van een subtiel bittertje houdt, zonder dat het drankje zwaar aanvoelt. Bovendien past de Paloma perfect binnen de trend van cocktails met een lager alcoholpercentage.

3. Wellness-cocktails

Cocktails mogen best een beetje gezond voelen. Wellness-drankjes zijn daarom dé opvallende trend van 2026. Denk aan kombucha, kokoswater, elektrolyten, verse kruiden en citrus. Sommige bars voegen zelfs adaptogenen of extra vitamines toe.

Het draait niet om een wondermiddel, maar om een frisse cocktail die lichter is, minder suiker bevat en beter past bij een bewuste levensstijl. Ook alcoholvrije varianten winnen hierdoor snel terrein.

4. Mango & chili

De combinatie van tropisch fruit met een vleugje pit is deze zomer overal te zien. Mango, passievrucht en ananas krijgen gezelschap van jalapeño of chili, waardoor een verrassend frisse smaak ontstaat.

De zogenaamde 'swicy'-trend – een mix van sweet en spicy – verovert cocktailbars wereldwijd. Vooral een Mango-Jalapeño Spritz geldt als een van de grote kanshebbers voor hét zomerdrankje van 2026.

5. Frozen spritzes en ijskoude highballs

Als de temperatuur stijgt, mag het drankje nóg kouder worden. Daarom maken bevroren spritzes, cocktails met crushed ice en lichte highballs een enorme opmars.

Ze bevatten vaak minder alcohol dan klassieke cocktails, blijven langer koel en zijn ideaal voor een middag op het terras of een barbecue in de tuin. Extra ijs, bruiswater en verse citrus zorgen voor maximale verkoeling.

DEN HAAG (ANP) - Staatssecretaris Eelco Eerenberg (Financiën, D66) neemt de wensen van de Eerste Kamer over het stelsel van vermogensbelasting in box 3 mee "als huiswerk voor de zomer". Het kabinet werkt de komende maanden aan een aanpassing van het wetsvoorstel dat dinsdag door de Eerste Kamer werd besproken.

Een aantal partijen in de senaat, waaronder coalitiepartij CDA, vindt dat mensen alleen belasting moeten betalen over de winst die ze hebben geboekt op hun spaargeld of aandelen. In het plan staat nu dat voor aandelen ook papieren winst belast wordt, dat vinden die partijen onacceptabel.

Eerenberg probeerde de senaat ervan te overtuigen de wet niet naar de prullenbak te verwijzen. "Anders gooit u ook allerlei dingen weg die wel goed zijn." Hij rekende voor dat een gezin met een vakantiehuis in het nieuwe stelsel duizenden euro's minder belasting gaat betalen. Het nieuwe stelsel is volgens hem eerlijker dan het oude, dat uitging van verwacht rendement.

Perhaps bots aren't the answer to everything when it comes to finding flaws. Fully automated pentesting has been a letdown for many security teams, according to offensive security firm Cobalt, as support for the approach has fallen sharply over the past year. Cobalt’s recent 2026 State of Pentesting report found, among other things, that security practitioners are rapidly ditching autonomous pentesting tools, in large part because they’re simply failing to detect critical vulnerabilities. Cobalt reported that 78 percent of respondents to its survey for the 2026 report experienced “critical false negatives” from automated scanning tools, with the tools quite bad at detecting the sort of vulnerabilities its AI ilk inflicts on environments in which it’s prevalent. “Automated scanners are brilliant at finding known, signature-based vulnerabilities. But they fail miserably at AI security,” the company said in a release summarizing the report’s findings. “Prompt injection exploits and excessive agency flaws require creative, multi-turn interaction chains [and] adversarial psychology,” Cobalt continued. “These logic flaws are entirely invisible to tools that test using single-shot automated queries.” A year of disappointment with automated scanning tools has led to a considerable decline in the number of organizations considering a purely automated security scanning approach, with just 9 percent of respondents saying that they were open to the idea, compared to 29 percent last year. It’s worth noting that the number of respondents to Cobalt’s survey was small - just 450 folks - but even with so few data points, the numbers are still bad news for automated pentesting vendors, but good news for infosec professionals, says Cobalt. “The drop in reliance on fully automated pentesting is actually a healthy sign,” the company said in its report summary. “It proves that practitioners are seeing through the vendor hype and demanding actual assurance rather than just coverage.” Those practitioners may also be simply overwhelmed by the number of vulnerabilities that non-security AI tools are introducing into their spaces: Per Cobalt, around 12 percent of the vulnerabilities detected in traditional environments are classified as high or critical severity. In AI and LLM environments, that number climbs to 32 percent, and that's not a new number, either. That 32 percent figure has held for the past two years, Cobalt said of its pentesting data, suggesting AI is introducing a lot more vulnerabilities. Combine those increased severity odds with automated pentesting bots that miss the sort of vulnerabilities that AI often introduces and it’s a recipe for disaster. Cobalt says the solution is hybrid security in which most systems are allowed to be automatically scanned by AI, while the most critical systems are left up to humans to protect and manage. The company sells such a solution, naturally, but it’s worth pointing out that its findings on the uptick in vulnerabilities introduced by AI aren't exactly a unique claim. Application security firm Veracode reported earlier this year that AI-assisted software development is creating more vulnerabilities than security teams can keep up with, leaving more vulnerabilities left unresolved for longer periods of time. Per Veracode, some 82 percent of companies are leaving known vulnerabilities unresolved for more than a year, while the number of high-risk vulnerabilities as a share of all discovered is rising as well. That said, not everyone is as skeptical of automated pentesting as Cobalt and its survey respondents. According to Amazon security chief CJ Moses, AI pentesting tools have made Amazon security teams 40 percent more efficient, though Moses’ measure for that figure isn’t clear. Moses still wasn’t keen on handing the entire security project off to AI, however. He told us at the RSA Conference in April that AI pentesting still needs a human in the loop to ensure it doesn’t muck something up. "AI is very good at doing things, especially when you have large amounts of data and need that big view,” Moses said in an April interview. “But from a decision-making capability, it isn't something that we're ready to rely on." ®

Nederland is verslagen en niet alleen op het veld. Op plekken als de Schilderswijk in Den Haag, Amsterdam West en in Rotterdam stonden om zes uur 's ochtends honderden Marokkaanse ""supporters"" op geheel eigen wijze de overwinning op Nederland te ""vieren"". Het ging als vanouds gepaard met vernielingen en geweld tegen de politie. We zeggen niet dat de maat vol is, maar de maat is wel behoorlijk gevuld (en dan tot het randje van de maat, dat er echt niks meer in de maat kan zeg maar). Tuig en schorriemorrie heb je overal, maar de laatste keer dat de Tietenman en de Dutch Fanatics een politiecorps te lijf gingen kunnen wij ons ff niet heugen. Volgens onze premier viel het al met al nog mee en was het Marokkaanse feestgedruis ""overwegend positief"", maar hoe staat onze volksvertegenwoordiging in de verloren knock-out-wedstrijd? Tom Staal zocht het uit en u mag lekker kijken!
