Today's nominee for the AI Demo Hall of Shame inductee is analytics platform Databricks for the NYC Taxi Trips Analysis it's been showcasing on its Data Science page since last November. Not only for its choice of a completely trivial case study that requires no 'Data Science' skills — find and display the ten most expensive and longest taxi rides — but also for the horrible AI-generated bar chart used to present the results of the simple ranking that deserves its own spot in the Graph Hall of Shame. In response to a prompt of "Now create a new bar chart with matplotlib for the most expensive trips," the Databricks AI Assistant dutifully complies with the ill-advised request, spewing out Python code to display the ten rides on a nonsensical bar chart whose continuous x-axis hides points sharing the same distance. (One might also question why no annotation is provided to call out or explain the 3 trips with a distance of 0 miles that are among the ten most expensive rides, with fares of $260, $188, and $105). Looked at with a critical eye, these examples used to sell data scientists, educators, management, investors, and Wall Street on AI would likely raise eyebrows rather than impress their intended audiences.

DEN HAAG (ANP) - De klok is in de nacht van zaterdag op zondag een uur teruggezet. Om 03.00 uur ging de wintertijd in, en daarmee was het weer 02.00 uur. Met de wintertijd is het 's ochtends eerder licht.
Wintertijd is de standaardtijd in Nederland. Zomertijd is ooit bedacht om energie te besparen, omdat hiermee daglicht langer kon worden benut. Het Europees Parlement wilde de halfjaarlijkse tijdswisselingen in 2019 afschaffen. Het zou een negatief effect hebben op het bioritme van mensen en dieren en kon mogelijk gezondheidsklachten opleveren. Volgens verzekeraar Univé vinden bijna elk jaar op de eerste maandag na het ingaan van de wintertijd veel aanrijdingen plaats: het bedrijf registreerde in de afgelopen tien jaar gemiddeld 13 procent meer schadegevallen dan op de maandagen ervoor.
Elk land binnen de Europese Unie mocht zelf kiezen of het winter- of zomertijd wilde hanteren. Buurlanden wilden dit toch gezamenlijk afstemmen en de beslissing is inmiddels op de lange baan geschoven.
In het laatste weekend van maart gaat daarom de zomertijd weer in.
WASHINGTON (ANP) - De Amerikaanse president Donald Trump heeft 10 procent extra importheffingen voor Canada aangekondigd om wat hij "ernstige verkeerde voorstelling van de feiten" door Canada noemt.
Heet hangijzer is een recent uitgezonden reclamespot van de Canadese provincie Ontario tegen importheffingen. In de video is de stem van de voormalige Amerikaanse president Ronald Reagan te horen, die in een speech uit 1987 de nadelen van handelstarieven bespreekt. Reagan hield de toespraak om uit te leggen waarom hij had besloten heffingen op bepaalde Japanse producten op te leggen.
"Hun reclamespot had onmiddellijk verwijderd moeten worden, maar ze hebben hem gisteravond weer laten uitzenden, terwijl ze wisten dat het fraude was", schreef Trump zaterdag op Truth Social. Hij voegde eraan toe: "Vanwege hun ernstige verkeerde voorstelling van de feiten, en hun vijandige daad, verhoog ik de importheffing voor Canada met 10 procent bovenop wat ze nu al betalen."
Het is niet duidelijk op welke goederen het nieuwe tarief betrekking zal hebben. Officieel heeft Trump Canada een importheffing van 35 procent opgelegd, maar het merendeel van de Canadese export naar de Verenigde Staten is vrijgesteld vanwege een handelsovereenkomst tussen de VS, Mexico en Canada (USMCA). Staal en aluminium vallen niet onder die uitzondering, en de auto-industrie slechts gedeeltelijk.
